Dear KLM Customer Service, I am writing to formally address the cancellation of my flight from Amsterdam (AMS) to Porto (OPO), which was scheduled for (05-12-2024) at 20:40h. My booking reference was (JEJD2S - 0572324614389), and the flight number was (KL1577). The cancellation of this flight has caused significant inconvenience, and I would like to request compensation in accordance with EU Regulation 261/2004, wich outlines passenger rights in the event of flights cancellations. Since my flight is from Amsterdam (AMS) to Porto (OPO), both of wich are in the EU, and the distance is above 1,500 km, I am eligible for 400€ in compensation. Please, find below the details of my flight: Booking Reference: JEJD2S – 0572324614389 Flight Number: KL1577 Original Date of Departure: 05-12-2024 Alternative Flight with layover in Madrid: Flight Number: IB1796 Original Date of Departure: 06-12-2024, from Amsterdam (AMS) to Madrid (MAD) Flight Number: IB0545 Original Date of Departure: 06-12-2024, from Madrid (MAD) to Porto (OPO) Due to the cancellation and when moving from the airport to the taxi, my wallet was stolen with my documents and money, so I had to go to the police department to file a police report. In this department they were unable to help me and I had to go to the Portuguese embassy in the Netherlands and that involved taxi costs, a new passport, etc. After all this trouble, I missed the alternative flight, as they wouldn't let me board without documents and I had to buy a new plane ticket. Last Flight: Booking Reference: JEJD2S – 0572324614389 Flight Number: KL1577 Date of Departure: 06-12-2024, from Amsterdam (AMS) to Madrid (MAD) Total Delay or Length od Disruption: 15 hours Given that the cancellation was not caused by extraordinary circumstances, I believe I am entitled to compensation for the disruption caused, as well as any associated expenses incurred (e.g., meals, taxi, accommodation, passport, etc). I kindly ask for your prompt response to this matter, as well as information on the next steps to receive the compensation owed.
