I made a reservation through Uniplaces and paid a total of €454 on 30 June 2026.
After I had made the payment, I was informed that I would have to pay an additional €1,230 in order to obtain the accommodation. This was a substantial additional amount that had not been disclosed to me as a mandatory payment before I made the €454 payment.
Had this additional €1,230 requirement been disclosed before payment, I would not have made the reservation.
Because I was not willing to pay this unexpected additional amount, I contacted Uniplaces and asked to cancel the reservation.
Only after I requested cancellation did Uniplaces inform me that the €454 I had already paid was non-refundable.
As a result, I was left in a situation where I had paid €454 for a reservation, was subsequently asked to pay a further €1,230 that had not been disclosed beforehand, and was then told that I could not recover the €454 when I asked to cancel because of this undisclosed additional requirement.
I did not receive what I believed I was paying €454 for. Instead, after payment, the actual cost required to obtain the accommodation increased by €1,230.
I consider this unacceptable. A substantial mandatory cost required in order to obtain the accommodation should have been clearly disclosed before I made the reservation and payment. I should not have been required to discover such a significant additional charge only after my €454 payment had already been made.
I attempted to resolve this matter directly with Uniplaces and subsequently opened a dispute with PayPal, but the matter remains unresolved.
I am therefore requesting a full refund of the €454.
I can provide supporting documentation showing:
the reservation and €454 payment;
the subsequent demand for an additional €1,230;
my request to cancel the reservation;
Uniplaces' subsequent statement that the €454 was non-refundable; and
my attempts to resolve the matter.
I attach a screenshot from the Uniplaces website showing the information presented to me when making the reservation. Uniplaces advertised the accommodation at €252 for the first rental month and added a €202 one-time service fee, resulting in a clearly displayed total of €454. The payment summary stated that, following the landlord's approval, I would pay €454 through Uniplaces. At no point in this payment summary was an additional mandatory payment of €1,230 disclosed or indicated as a condition for obtaining the accommodation.
