I asked the receptionist for a repeat prescription of my medication that I urgently needed on the 15th November. She said she would call me on the following Tuesday to let me know when it is ready to be collected. I never heard from her, so asked my husband to collect my prescription for me on the 25th November. They told him there was nothing for me. I went into the centre again on the 26th November to find out what the problem was. I only moved to Portugal in April this year and one of the first things I did was to sign up for Portuguese lessons, which commenced 1st October. I know some basic Portuguese so always try to use it when I can. As always, when walking into the centre, this receptionist ignores you and walks off, so already you are greeted with hostility. However, I greeted the receptionist , wished her good morning with a friendly smile and asked how she was. I then said please could she help me with a problem. I said all this in Portuguese. I had already typed out the translation of my problem on my phone. I stated that I am now desperate for my medication as I requested it days ago. The receptionist started speaking very fast Portuguese to me, knowing full well I could not understand. She made no attempt to get someone to help translate and there are staff there who speak English. I stated I did not know what she was saying and passed her my phone so she could use my translator which she refused to do. She then started shouting at me with hostility, so much so that I burst into tears. Not knowing what else to do, I asked for the Complaints Book . I asked her for this 3 times and she ignored me every time. I asked for it in perfect Portuguese. So I went to the next desk and asked another receptionist to get me the book, which I then filled in. Meanwhile, the rude receptionist had rung my Doctor and stated the problem. She told me he would see me in a minute. I waited and waited so then asked again how long it would be as I needed to go to my Portuguese lesson. She said "pode vir" so I followed her round to the Doctors room. She walked away so I walked into the room where the Doctor screamed at me to leave .I said to him that I was told to come and walked round by the receptionist. I asked the receptionist why she had done this and then had to leave as I was very upset and shaken. Still without my vital medication. My husband went into the centre this morning, 27th November to also fill out the complaints book as he too was disgusted with their rudeness and behaviour towards me. He was told that we are no longer registered with them. So I have basically been punished because I stood up for myself against bullying, rudeness and discrimination. I always dread going into this surgery as both the receptionists and my particular Doctor are always beyond rude to me and I don't understand why. I have always greeted them with a friendly smile and speak as much Portuguese as I know. I dont know where to go from here. I am still without my medication which is making me very ill.
