I initially chose Leasys for car renting, expecting a smooth and efficient service. However, my experience has been nothing but stressful due to severe inefficiencies in both their customer service and financial department, as well as serious safety concerns with the vehicle provided. 1. Safety Concern – Faulty Brakes on a Brand-New Car When I first received my leased vehicle (Fiat 500 Hybrid), it was supposed to be brand new. However, within the first three months, I experienced a critical safety issue—while driving, the brakes completely failed, putting my life at risk. The car had to be taken for an urgent inspection and service, which should never have been necessary on a new vehicle. This raised serious doubts about the reliability and safety standards of the cars provided by Leasys. 2. Incorrect Billing and Unjustified Charges In August 2023, the lease contract ownership was transferred. Despite assurances that the transition would be smooth, the financial department mismanaged the process, leading to an unjustified claim of $1,500 in March 2024. They even attempted to repossess the car, despite the payments being correctly debited from the previous owner’s account. After two months of emails, legal documentation, and bank statements proving the payments were made, Leasys finally admitted in May 2024 that their system had been updated and the issue was resolved. However, in January 2025, they wrongfully claimed an outstanding balance of over €2,100, including invoices from 2023 and 2024 that had already been settled. Even with proof, they failed to update their records and continued demanding payment. 3. Issues with Vehicle Return and Unauthorized Charges On December 13, 2024, I officially returned the vehicle, and a full inspection was conducted. Despite this: I have not received the final invoices related to the return of the vehicle (as of January 28, 2025), including the early termination fee (€150), preventing me from settling pending payments. My account was incorrectly debited for January 2025 (€243.43), even though the contract ended in December. A charge for February 2025 was also generated, which is unacceptable since the vehicle was already returned. I have repeatedly requested an immediate correction of these errors, yet I have received no resolution. 4. Lack of Responsiveness & Inefficient Customer Service Leasys’ customer service has been extremely slow and unresponsive, failing to acknowledge previously resolved agreements. Despite multiple emails and official proof of payments, they continue to mishandle my case. 5. Urgency Ignored – Risking Tax Filing Deadlines Due to their inefficiency, I do not have the correct invoices needed for my Portuguese IRS (tax declaration) for 2024, putting my tax compliance at risk. Final Considerations For those looking for a stress-free car rental experience, I strongly advise against using Leasys. Their lack of organization and poor customer service can cause unnecessary financial disputes, tax filing complications, and significant frustration. More importantly, my experience with a serious mechanical failure on a new vehicle raises concerns about their fleet’s safety and reliability. If you are considering renting a car in Portugal, I highly recommend choosing a company with a proven track record of efficiency, transparency, and good customer support, which unfortunately, Leasys does not provide.
